Peel off operations in the opposite order they were applied.

  1. 1Subtract or add the same number on both sides to isolate the x term
  2. 2Divide by the number multiplying x
  3. 3Check by plugging back in
EXAMPLE
3x + 7 = 22
→ 3x = 22 − 7 → 3x = 15 → x = 5
